In 2018 the state’s lake survey recorded 166 lakes in and around Bengaluru as still there. No map we have draws them, so they are not on our map. Most are small ponds, and half are under 0.57 acres. The record does not say whether each one is still there. This is what it does say.

Where they are, and how small

The 2018 survey gives each lake’s taluk and its extent. Of these lakes, 120 are small ponds (kunte), 37 are medium tanks (katte) and 9 are large tanks (kere). 39 of them sit inside today’s city wards.

Since 2018, 3 are on the state's 2024 lake list, 4 have a page on the city's lake monitoring site and satellites saw water at 4. The rest have nothing newer on record.
